How to choose the right fabric
Five kinds of fabric, each with its own character.
Every kind of fabric has its own look, its own feel and its own strengths. What suits you best mainly depends on three things: how easy the fabric is to clean, whether there are pets, and how much sun the sofa gets.
- Woven: calm, natural and timeless; feels dry and firm. Strong and keeps its shape, and easy to clean when it contains polyester. With a lot of cotton or linen, stains soak in faster.
- Bouclé: warm, cosy and contemporary, with a soft, woolly texture that hides small stains and wear. The loops can catch on cat claws.
- Velvet: luxurious and chic, velvety soft, with a deep colour and a sheen that moves with the light. Hairs and dust show more; brush with the pile.
- Chenille: warm and rich, soft and full, often with a pattern (jacquard). Comfortable; loops and pile can pill or snag.
- Micro leather: sleek and modern, with the look of leather. Wipe stains and hairs off with a damp cloth; sharp claws can scratch.

What does Martindale mean?
Martindale is the number of rubs a fabric withstands before it wears. As an industry rule of thumb: 15,000 to 25,000 rubs for normal domestic use, from about 25,000 rubs for daily and intensive use, and from about 40,000 rubs also for contract use such as hotels and offices. All our fabrics with a known value are at 35,000 rubs or more: suitable for a sofa that is used every day.
Caring for your fabric
Remove a stain straight away: dab with a clean cloth and a neutral soap solution, with gentle circular movements, and don’t rub hard. Brush velvet with the pile, and wipe micro leather with a damp cloth. That way your sofa stays beautiful for years.
