The bouclé sofa: soft down to every curl.
Bouclé is the fabric with small, curled yarns that you almost instinctively want to touch. Its tactile texture looks its best on an organic design sofa. Choose your bouclé in the 3D configurator and have your sofa made by hand, just for you.
A bouclé sofa is a sofa upholstered in bouclé: a fabric of curled yarns with a soft, tactile, cloud-like texture. The name is French and means ‘curled’.
The tiny loops give the surface depth and structure, even in a plain colour. That is why a bouclé sofa looks warm and calm, and why the fabric brings out the curves of a design.
At Bizzarto, the 3D configurator offers, among other fabrics, two bouclé collections, Florence and Ascot, each in six colours. Which bouclé suits your chosen model best is something you discuss with your interior consultant. Your sofa is then made to measure and by hand for you.
Which bouclé fabrics can you choose?
In the configurator, bouclé is a fabric type of its own, alongside woven fabrics, velvet, micro leather and chenille. You pick a collection and a colour and see the fabric on your sofa in 3D straight away.
- Florence: six colours — Pearl, Sand, Taupe, Silver, Ash and Graphite.
- Ascot: six colours — Nata, Pearl, Toffee, Taupe, Brick and Mouse.
A colour on a screen is never quite the same as fabric in your hand. So request the sample box and look at the samples at home, in your own light; the box is on loan and you send it back free of charge with prepaid postage. Prefer personal advice? An interior consultant can also visit you at home.
Not every fabric looks equally good on every model. Bofii is available in every fabric in the Bizzarto range; for other models your interior consultant advises which bouclé works best.

What is the difference between bouclé, chenille and teddy?
Bouclé, chenille and teddy are often mentioned in the same breath, because all three are soft and inviting. Yet they look and feel different. Bouclé has a structure of small curls; chenille is velvety soft, with a warm sheen. A ‘teddy sofa’ usually means a sofa in an extra-soft fabric that feels like a teddy bear.
If it is that teddy softness you are after, also take a look at the chenille Doodle: described in the configurator as ‘soft as a teddy’, in thirteen colours. This is how the fabric types in the configurator compare:
| Fabric type | Look and feel | Collections in the configurator |
|---|---|---|
| Bouclé | Soft and curly, with a tactile, cloud-like texture | Florence (6 colours), Ascot (6 colours) |
| Chenille | Velvety soft, with a lively, warm sheen | Duomo (6), Denver (6), Coco (17, chenille jacquard), Doodle (13, ‘soft as a teddy’) |
| Velvet | Deep velvet with a rich sheen that shifts with the light | Claude (6), Seven (47, knitted velvet) |
| Woven | Sturdy, natural-looking weave with a subtle texture | Padova (6), Seattle (6), Linea (20, 100% linen) |
| Micro leather | The look of leather with the ease of fabric | Yacht (19), Aston (17) |
Which shapes look best in bouclé?
Bouclé lets soft lines speak. On a sofa with curves, rounded armrests and arched backs, the texture follows every contour. That is why many people choose bouclé for organic designs:
- Irys by Grynasz Studio: flowing forms from nature, with armrests, seats and backrests that merge into one another.
- Dune: soft lines inspired by hills and dunes, recognised with Must Have and the Diament Meblarstwa.
- Bofii: rounded contours and organic proportions, inspired by architect Ricardo Bofill. The sofas won a Red Dot Design Award 2025.
- Acapulco: rounded sides, curved backrests and tall legs.
- Mist and Columbus: asymmetric, softly rounded modules and round layouts. Read more about the curved sofa.
A bouclé armchair is a lovely choice too, as an eye-catcher next to your sofa. You can have the Bofii armchair in any fabric from the Bizzarto range, on a swivel base or on wooden legs, with a matching round pouf. You will find more models among our designer armchairs.

How do you care for a bouclé sofa?
Bouclé is a fabric to enjoy every day. A few simple habits keep the texture looking good. These are general tips; always follow the care advice that comes with your fabric.
- Vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment and without pressing hard, so the curls keep their shape.
- Dab spills straight away with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub: that can pull the loops out of shape.
- Watch out for sharp edges: jewellery, zips or pets’ claws can catch on a loop. Never pull at a loose thread.
- Avoid strong sunlight where possible; as with any fabric, prolonged direct sunlight can affect the colour.
Not sure which fabric best suits the way you live, for example with children or pets? Your interior consultant will help you choose, including between bouclé and the woven fabrics, which the configurator describes as strong and easy to care for.
Quality you can’t see, but can feel.
Bouclé is what you see and feel: the fabric and the beautiful design. But the real quality of a sofa is something you cannot see. It is on the inside, under the fabric.
- Construction: no chipboard, but thick wood, plywood and steel.
- Springs that support the seat evenly.
- Foam: in the seats we use high-grade foam, including memory foam (the so-called NASA foam).
- Weight: because of these high-quality materials, a Bizzarto sofa weighs noticeably more than average.
That makes your sofa strong and built for long, intensive use. Every piece is made by hand in our own manufactory in Poland and comes with a personal serial number and certificate. Read more about quality from within and about our handmade furniture.

Questions about the bouclé sofa
What is a bouclé sofa?
A bouclé sofa is a sofa upholstered in bouclé, a fabric made of curled yarns. The surface has small loops and feels soft, tactile and cloud-like. Bouclé looks especially good on organic designs such as Irys, Dune and Bofii.
What is the difference between bouclé and teddy?
Bouclé has a structure of small curls or loops. Teddy usually refers to an extra-soft fabric that feels like a teddy bear. Besides the bouclé fabrics Florence and Ascot, the configurator also offers the chenille Doodle, described as ‘soft as a teddy’.
Which bouclé fabrics can I choose at Bizzarto?
In the 3D configurator you can choose from, among others, Florence (Pearl, Sand, Taupe, Silver, Ash and Graphite) and Ascot (Nata, Pearl, Toffee, Taupe, Brick and Mouse). With the sample box you can look at the samples at home first.
Can I have any model made in bouclé?
The Bofii sofas and the Bofii armchair are available in every fabric in the Bizzarto range. For other models, your interior consultant will look with you at which fabrics are possible and which bouclé works best. In the configurator you see the result in 3D straight away.
Is a bouclé sofa difficult to look after?
Not if you keep a few habits: vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment, dab spills straight away rather than rubbing, and watch out for sharp edges that can catch on the loops. Always follow the care advice for your fabric.
Is there a bouclé armchair too?
Yes. You can have the Bofii armchair by Grynasz Studio in any fabric from the Bizzarto range, so in bouclé too. Choose a swivel base or wooden legs, and add a matching round pouf of Ø 54 cm if you like.
Why is a Bizzarto sofa so heavy?
Because the quality is on the inside: no chipboard, but thick wood, plywood and steel, springs and high-grade foam, including memory foam. These high-quality materials make the sofa noticeably heavier than average, and strong enough for long, intensive use.
Can I see and feel bouclé first?
Yes. Request the sample box to look at the fabrics at home; the box is on loan and you send it back free of charge afterwards. You can also have an interior consultant visit you at home. Soon you will also be welcome in our showroom in Rotterdam.
