Bizzarto Manhattan, distinctly soft lounge sofa
Lounge sofas

Lounge sofas, made to sink into.

Deep seats, soft cushions and room to stretch out: a lounge sofa is made for long evenings. You choose the depth and softness that suit you, in your size and fabric.

Design your lounge sofa

A lounge sofa is a sofa with an extra-deep, soft seat, on which you do not just sit upright but also relax with your legs tucked up or half lying down. It often comes with a chaise longue, so lying down is as easy as sitting.

At Bizzarto you decide how deep and how soft your lounge sofa is. Mood is designed as a true lounge sofa with deep seats, Manhattan is distinctly soft thanks to a proprietary combination of foams, and in Spring and Choco you adjust the seat depth with a sliding backrest. Below you can compare the depth and seating comfort of our lounge sofas.

The right depth

Which seat depth suits you?

The deeper the sofa, the more room to sit with your legs tucked up or to lie down. But deep is not equally comfortable for everyone: if you are shorter, you soon end up slouching on a very deep sofa. So match the seat depth to your height and to the way you most like to sit.

  • Adjustable: in Spring and Choco you slide the backrest forwards or backwards, from sitting upright to stretching out at full length. That makes Choco comfortable for taller and shorter people alike.
  • Two depths: Grande (112 or 122 cm) and Dune (115 or 125 cm) come in the depth that suits you.
  • With cushions: in Grande you set the seat depth with back and lumbar cushions. Mood and Norman can also have lumbar cushions for extra back support.
  • With a chaise longue: to stretch out at full length, 158 or 185 cm deep in Miami and 180 cm in La Roche.

A lounge sofa with a chaise longue is often a corner sofa too. Read more about the designer corner sofa.

Seating comfort

Soft seating, your way.

A lounge sofa should be soft and supportive at the same time. This is how you tune the comfort.

01

Softness of your choice

In Manhattan you choose the softness per seat and backrest, so everyone in the family has their favourite spot. In Grande, Swing and Aston you also decide how soft the seat and back are.

02

Cushions to sink into

The large, adjustable back cushions of La Roche are filled with feathers. In the back cushions of Miami you sink into down, in Mood into a blend of down and feathers.

03

Filling for allergy sufferers

Mood is available with anti-allergenic silicone fibre, Miami and Manhattan with silicone fibre, and Dune and Spring with synthetic down.

04

A soft fabric

Bouclé has a tactile, cloud-like texture and chenille is velvety soft; the Doodle chenille is as soft as a teddy. Velvet has a rich sheen that moves with the light. Read more about the bouclé sofa.

05

Lounging with a recline function

In Zen the reclining mechanism adjusts the backrest angle steplessly, with headrests you adjust separately. Swing has an electric reclining function for back, feet and head. More about the reclining sofa.

Quality from the inside

Quality you can’t see, but can feel.

A soft sofa that sags after a few years is no longer a lounge sofa. Sitting softly without sagging calls for an inside that is sturdy. What you see and feel is the fabric and the beautiful design; the real quality is on the inside:

  • A sturdy frame: no chipboard, but thick wood, plywood and steel that carry a deep seat and a chaise longue for years.
  • Springs: they let the seat give without sagging. In Mood a proprietary combination of different springs works together with high-resilience foams.
  • High-quality foam: in the seats we use high-quality foam, including memory foam (the so-called NASA foam).
  • Moving parts: the sliding back of Spring and Choco and the reclining functions of Zen and Swing are made for daily use.

Because of these high-quality materials, a Bizzarto lounge sofa weighs noticeably more than average. That makes it strong and made for long, intensive use, even after years of lounging. Read more about quality from the inside.

In your living room

Which lounge sofa fits your living room?

A lounge sofa needs space: a deep seat or chaise longue reaches further into the room than a standard sofa. So measure not only the wall but also the depth you have available, and keep at least 90 cm of walking space clear. If space is limited, choose a collection in two depths, such as Dune or Grande, and go for the shallower version.

For the coffee table, a common rule of thumb applies: about two thirds of the length of your sofa, with roughly 40 to 50 cm between sofa and table. Read more about the designer coffee table.

In the 3D configurator you see your lounge sofa to scale in your room. Save your design without obligation: a Dutch interior consultant gives you complete advice and we discuss your quotation with you. Once you accept, you feel the fabrics at home with the sample box, on loan and returned free of charge. After your final fabric choice and the 50% deposit, your lounge sofa is made by hand in 6–8 weeks; you then receive a message with the delivery date, and delivery and installation follow within 2 weeks. Would you like to sleep on your lounge sofa too? With its sleeping function, Calvados offers a sleeping area of up to 300 × 150 cm in a corner arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about lounge sofas

What is a lounge sofa?

A lounge sofa is a sofa with an extra-deep, soft seat on which you can also relax half lying down or with your legs tucked up. At Bizzarto, Mood is designed as a true lounge sofa with deep seats, and Manhattan is a distinctly soft lounge collection.

How deep is a lounge sofa?

In our lounge sofas the module depth ranges from 110 cm in Manhattan and Acapulco to 143 cm in Choco. Spring is 124 to 136 cm deep thanks to a sliding back, and Grande (112 or 122 cm) and Dune (115 or 125 cm) come in two depths.

Which lounge sofa is the softest?

Manhattan is distinctly soft thanks to a proprietary combination of foams in the seat cushions, and you can even choose the softness per seat. Mood, with springs and high-resilience foam in the seat, and Miami, with high-resilience foam and down-filled back cushions, also offer a soft, relaxed sit.

Doesn’t a soft lounge sofa sag quickly?

That depends on the inside. At Bizzarto the frame is not chipboard but thick wood, with springs and high-quality foam, including memory foam, in the seats. That is why our sofas are noticeably heavier than average, and strong and made for long, intensive use.

Is a deep sofa also suitable for shorter people?

Yes, if you can adjust the seat depth. In Spring and Choco you slide the backrest, which makes Choco comfortable for taller and shorter people alike. In Grande you adjust the seat depth with back and lumbar cushions.

What is the difference between a lounge sofa and a reclining sofa?

A lounge sofa relaxes you through its deep, soft seat. A reclining sofa also has a reclining mechanism to adjust the backrest: steplessly in Zen, electrically in Swing, together with footrest and headrest.

Can I sleep on a lounge sofa?

Calvados combines a generous corner sofa with a sleeping function and a sleeping area of up to 300 × 150 cm. Grande and Swing are also available with a sleeping function. If you mainly need a guest bed, have a look at our designer sofa beds as well.

What you don't see

Build quality

You can't see the real quality of a piece of furniture: it is on the inside, in the frame, the foam, the springs and the seams. That is why a Bizzarto is strong, made for long and intensive use — and noticeably heavier.

  • Wood, plywood and steelNo chipboard, but a frame of thick wood, plywood and steel, on a strong base. It stays stable and keeps its shape, even after years of intensive use.
  • Seating comfort that lastsHigh-grade foam from Europe's top brands in the seats, including memory foam (the so-called NASA foam). It moulds itself to your body and springs back every time.
  • Springs and mechanisms for every daySprings give the seat even support. Moving parts, such as recliner and sleep functions, fold-out footrests, armrests and headrests, are made to be used every day.
  • Made by hand, double-stitchedEvery piece is made by hand in our own manufactory, with fabrics and foam from the best brands in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Portugal. All seams are double-stitched, so the fabric and stitching stay crisp for years.
